If you’re here, chances are you need some extra help getting your cat to eat Smalls. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here is a step-by-step, slow and steady approach to transitioning—great for cats who didn’t accept an immediate switch to Smalls.

**Remember:** The transition can take time, but the health benefits are worth it. Try these tips, and with a little patience, you’re sure to find your cat’s new fave.

**Step 1:** Start with one familiar recipe. While it’s fun to discover new faves, we recommend transitioning with a protein your cat already loves.

**Step 2:** Mix a tiny amount of Smalls into their old food to get them used to ours. Or, to reduce stress even further, try putting their current food in one bowl and Smalls in another. This lets your cat explore on their own terms.

**Step 3:** Introduce new recipes one at a time. Once your cat is adjusting well, start working through the other recipes in your box one by one—never multiple recipes in one meal.

**Step 4:** Give every recipe a few tries before deciding. It can take 2-3 (or more!) tries before a cat decides to eat something new. Sniffing, licking, or scratching near the bowl are all signs your cat is interested.

**Step 5:** When your cat is consistently eating a recipe well, start phasing out their old food entirely. Reduce the old food a little more each day over 3–4 days until they're eating only Smalls.

## **More Tips for a Smooth Switch**

**1\. Warm it up.** Scent is a cat's #1 food motivator. Place a pack in a bowl of warm water for 3–5 minutes to bring out the aromas, or microwave for 5 seconds, mix, and repeat 2–3 times as needed. Avoid overheating; you don’t wanna burn your kitty!

**2\. Walk away.** We know you love looking at your cat, but try not to watch or touch them while they eat. Cats are more likely to try new food with a little peace and quiet.

**3\. Keep feeding times consistent.** Too much change at once can stress your cat out. When transitioning to a new food, make sure the rest of their feeding schedule stays the same.

**4\. Entice.** After eating foods loaded with artificial flavors, switching to a filler-free diet can be hard for your cat. During the transition phase, we recommend adding some of your cat’s favorite treats for extra flavor.

When in doubt, just let your cat set the pace, be patient, and give them the space they need to truly appreciate the Smalls upgrade.
